It’s 2022 y’all! I am mildly OCD and I love even numbers so I feel like this is going to be a good year for me. 🙂 RaptorDad’s brother lives out in the country so got a bunch of fireworks and went over there to hang out in the yard and have some quality cousin time. So much fun!
Let’s check on the December goals and then the 2021 goals…
December Daily. I actually ::gasp:: decided not to do December Daily this year. I KNOW! I couldn’t believe it either. But it was feeling more like a burden than anything else and I’m not into making my hobbies feel like a job.
Hexie Blocks. I had a massive success with this one! The whole top is together. Now I just have to decide if I want to trim it square or applique it onto border. But I’m content to put it on a shelf for a bit and let it marinate.
Day Trip. This one didn’t happen because we all got a cold (negative covid tests thank goodness!) But soon I think. I need to see the ocean!
Scrapbooking. I didn’t get anything done. In fact, I’m making some changes for next year. I’m 90% decided that I’m going to do a single hybrid Project Life/ Scrapbook. One Project Life layout a month, ditch the calendar pages, and maybe 2 or 3 scrapbook pages a month, but only if I feel strongly about the pictures. Now that the kids are in school full time, there just aren’t as many pictures.
Christmas Cards. Fail. But I did get my thank you notes sent out so that’s something.
Advent Calendar. I got exactly 3 toys done. lol. But I am still enjoying it!
St. Lucia Buns. Done and they were delicious this year!
Activity Advent Calendar. I actually didn’t do great with this one this year. But that’s ok.
Downtown Lights. Yes! We did this and it was so much fun. We got a take out pizza from our favorite local pizza place and ate it down by the plaza so we could do some people watching. Then the kids had a blast looking at all of the lights.
Cookie Stuff. Done! I actually bought something on Etsy and modified it to work. Soooooo worth the couple of dollars. lol.
Let’s see the 2021 goals…
Hexies. Done! I got the center done and I’m super excited. 🙂
Butterfly Quilt. Top is done and I’ve decided to have it professionally quilted so now I’m just waiting for the long armer. 🙂
Caterpillar Quilt. Ditto! Maybe I’ll actually have these finished by their birthday. 🙂
Project Life. Well, I got 2019 done. Still need to finish 2020 and 2021. I got 26 spreads done in 2021, so 1/2 of the year. Both better and worse than I was expecting.
Scrapbooks. I didn’t work on 2020 at all. Like, I just looked and I didn’t do a single page. lol. So I’m still 6 months behind there. I did 22 pages from 2021 scattered throughout the year. January is done and February only needs the calendar page.
Scrapbook Gap. Well, I am caught up through the end of February 2019 so that’s something? I finished 20 pages from 2018 which closed out that year. And I did 17 pages from 2019. I usually get some scrappy motivation in January/ February so I’ll have to see what I can knock out this month.
Advent Calendar. I made some progress, but there’s still loads to be done. Still, I’d really like to wrap this up before next Christmas.
Monthly Kid Adventures. I actually switched this up to a monthly state park challenge midway through the year. We didn’t make it to 12, but we did make it to 5! I’d love to keep exploring these. 🙂
Monthly Seasonal Celebration. Hmm… I feel like maybe we got 7 out of 12?
Homeschool. Well, we survived. lol. And I am getting some distance so that I can remember it fondly. Or at least more fondly. lol.
Other notable achievements include losing 50 pounds! Many more to go. lol.
Hmm… I was trying to decide if I even wanted to do annual goals, but I do like being able to check in at the end of the year so here goes.
Monthly Adventure with RaptorDad. We have been taking advantage of the kids being in school to go on some local adventures! Sometimes we do fun Austin bucket list things (Barton Springs and Peter Pan Mini Golf topping the list!) and sometimes we just go try a fun new lunch spot or go for a hike. Either way it’s been so nice to have some time to reconnect and we want to keep it up in the new year. 🙂
House Reorganization. This is a big one. We have a 4 bedroom house- master, twin’s room, Kate’s room, art room. Currently the only carpet is in the 3 small bedrooms and it’s super gross builder grade carpet. We also have a crazy indoor “playhouse” that RaptorDad build when Kate was a baby and it’s taking up 1/3 of our living room. The master plan is to put wood floors in the bedrooms which will require everything coming out of the 3 small bedrooms. We’re going to tear out the playhouse as well. (Yay for a massive decluttering opportunity!) Since everything is coming out anyway, we’re going to switch the twin’s room and the art room. We’re also getting the twins big kid beds and new storage. I’m hoping that this can happen in the spring, but we’ll just have to see.
Road Trip! I’ve been wanting to take an epic road trip for many years, but the timing has never been right. Now that the kids are all older, I’d really like to plan a road trip for this summer. I’m sure it will not be the 2 month cross country insanity that I’m envisioning, but surely I can manage a week or 2. Maybe we’ll finally make it to the Grand Canyon! Or Mount Rushmore!
Past Project Life. Hmm… What seems reasonable… I think I’d like to finish 2020 (8 layouts), and finish 2021 (27 layouts including the front and back pages).
Current Project Life. I’d like to attempt to do 1 layout a month.
Past Scrapbooks. Ideally, I’d love to finish 2019, 2020, AND 2021. But more realistically, I’d like to cull the list so that I’m only aiming for 4 or 5 layouts a month. Then try to get 2019 done. Just to keep myself organized, I need to do 10 months from 2019, 6 from 2020, and 11 from 2021.
Current Scrapbook. As always, I’d love to get back to scrapping in real time. Fingers crossed that the new plan of 1 scrapbook to rule them all will help with this plan. I’m thinking a goal of no more than 4 pages a month? Some months I end up with 20 or more pages and that’s just not reasonable. I seriously do not need 40 scrapbook pages of the same creek at Garey Park. lol.
Bucilla Advent Calendar. I for real want to finish this before December this year.
Smitten Quilt. I want to finish this one! I think there’s hope. lol. I currently have 7 of 33 blocks done. (27 full blocks and 6 1/2 blocks).
Butterfly/ Caterpillar Quilts. I’m hoping to get these back from the quilter and bound/ labeled before the twin’s birthday. 🙂
So January Goals….
Staff Development Hours. We are officially down to the wire. My certificate expires in March and I’ve started subbing at the kids’ school so I actually have to renew it. I only need 25 more hours and I’d love to get them done in January so that I have a bit of a buffer.
Declutter. I’d love to get rid of 4 more giant trash bags from my office.
Walk twice a week. RaptorDad found an outdoor running trail. I’d like to go walk while he runs twice a week.
Family Dinner. Covid really did a number on family dinner. Honestly, we haven’t had it regularly since March 2020 and I’d like to change that. I want to sit down with RaptorDad and come up with some simple HEALTHY meals that I can easily make. Maybe shoot for me cooking dinner twice a week?
Family meeting. I am hoping to start a habit of a family meeting each Sunday where we go over plans for the upcoming week and fill in our planners. I think this would be a really good habit for Kate especially.
Smitten Quilt. I’d like to finish 3 more Smitten blocks. That will bring me up to 10 completed (2 of each color). Then I want to lay them out and prep the next round of 5.
Scrap. I want to set up my new book and get January 2022 done. Then maybe focus on Project Life 2020 and just get that done?
Cookie Season. Oh dear. It’s go time. lol. Somehow I’m the cookie mom for Mia’s troop. lol.
Clean Scrap Desk. I want to get it cleared off and organized.
Draft New Art Room. I drafted out the twin’s new room and it was very helpful in decided which furniture would work in there. I want to do the same with the art room so that I can get an idea of what storage will work in there.
Oh boy. This was the world’s longest blog post! lol. I really enjoy setting and reflecting on goals each year/ month. Clearly. Fingers crossed for more blog posts (with pictures!) in the new year.
It’s almost Christmas!!! I feel like Buddy the Elf. lol. I finally caved and start subbing at the kids’ school. lol. They’ve asked several times and I suck at saying no, but it’s actually been pretty fun! I also read a whole series of books that Kate’s been super excited about- and she was right! They are fabulous! All that to say that I didn’t do great on my goals this month, but let’s take a look anyway, just for accountability.
Hexie Blocks. Nope.
Advent Calendar. Nope.
December Daily Prep. Nope.
Smitten. Nope. BUT I do now have 10 blocks either finished or prepped and I made a conscious decision to stop at this point. I have 2 of each color and I want to see how they all look before I prep any more.
Christmas Shopping. I actually came pretty close on this one! We have all of the kid gifts done which is a huge relief. I’ve even already started wrapping!
Christmas Cards. I didn’t get any ordered, but I did take pictures. 🙂
Thanksgiving Plan. Done! And it was so much fun to get to see our family again this year!
Kid Activities. hahahahahaha.
Project Life. Nope.
OK. Clearly I need to get it together for December.
December Daily. I probably won’t have it finished by the end of the month, but I’d like to have the pictures all edited and printed.
Hexie Blocks. One of my big annual goals was to have the hexagon quilt top finished this year. At least up until the point where it’s time to add the border. I think it’s possible!
Day Trip? I’m strongly considering taking the kids on a day trip to the beach over Christmas break. Will it actually happen? IDK, lol, but I love the beach so much and we didn’t get to go this summer.
Scrapbooking. I’m seriously hoping that working on December Daily will inspire me to get back to scraping. I’m going to put down a goal of 10 old pages and 10 newer pages. There’s no way that this happens, but maybe! lol. Perhaps I should focus on the ghost of Christmas photos past since I’ll have my Christmas stuff out for December Daily…
Christmas Cards. I need to get these ordered and shipped.
Advent Calendar. I think it’s beyond hope to finish this year, but maybe I can skip ahead and get some of the toys done?
St Lucia Buns. We love this tradition!
Activity Advent Calendar. This is one of our favorites! And we’ll actually get to go do things this year!
Downtown Lights. Our town has the cutest little Christmas lights display. Totally want to take the kids down there one evening.
Cookie Stuff. I somehow agreed to be the cookie mom for Mia’s Girl Scout troop. ::sigh:: It’s going to be ok though. lol. I’d like to design some (cute) forms to help me with tracking and the troop with booths.
Hello beautiful people! It’s November! I got a lot of quilting done in October and basically no scrapping. That’s ok though! Let’s see how I did…
Hexie Blocks. I did it!!! I can’t believe it, but I have all of the hexie blocks done. Now I just need to sew them all together. lol.
Butterfly/ Caterpillar Quilts. Backs are pieced and it’s all packed up at my grandmother’s house awaiting a visit from her friend who is a long-armer. I can’t wait!
Project Life. Not a dang thing. lol.
Advent Calendar. I finished the background! I didn’t manage to finish the pockets, but still feels great to be making some progress.
Ice Cream Soda. I didn’t get much stitched together, but I did make some progress on prepping round 6. 🙂
Halloween Costumes. Done! And so stinking cute. 🙂 Kate is a minecraft youtuber (I don’t know what that means either, but her friends were excited. 🙂 ) and the littles were the pigeon and the bus from “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus”. Kate went trick or treating with some friends and we kept the littles home since they’re still not vaxxed (YET!!!) but they had a great time at their school’s Trunk or Treat and Kate brought home enough candy for 10 people. lol.
Camping Plan. Camping was a success! We only ended up sleeping in the tent on Friday night, opting to leave at bedtime on Saturday and sleep in our own beds. No regrets!
Fall Break Plan. Fall break was a huge success! So much fun at the lake house AND at the quilt retreat!
Smitten Quilt. This is so freaking adorable. I’ve already gotten 2 blocks done and 2 more prepped. There are a total of 27 full blocks and 6 half blocks so this feels like pretty great progress.
November Goals! In November my husband usually does NaNoWriMo and I attempt NaNoWriMo which, yes, I just made up. lol. So if all goes to plan, I’ll try to post on Instagram each day with a little crafty update.
Hexie Blocks. I’d love to get the 4th quadrant all assembled. I can’t believe the end is near! Well, the end of the epp. lol. I’ll still need to applique on a border and then quilt the dang thing. But still!
Advent Calendar. I’d like to get the pockets finished and the first week’s worth of pieces done.
NaNoCraftMo. Can I do a daily post? Maybe!
December Daily Prep. Enough said. lol.
Smitten. Hmm.. Maybe I can prep the remaining block 1 (2 to go) and the block 2 (5 to go)? I’d really love to get this all cut and prepped so I can clear off my sewing desk. lol.
Christmas Shopping. I would love to get all of the presents sorted by the end of the month.
Christmas Cards. I don’t think we’re doing professional pictures this year, so I’d like to take the kids out and do a little photo shoot and order some cards.
Thanksgiving plan. All the baking! I need to make a menu and a plan.
Kid Activities. Can we do 4 activities? Maybe!
Project Life. Oh my poor neglected Project Life. Maybe 2 weeks is a more reasonable goal?
We made it to October! Woo hoo! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays so I’m super pumped. 🙂 First let’s see how I did in September.
Hexie Blocks. I thought that my goal of 2 blocks was ambitious, but I actually got 3 done! I only have 2 left to go. 🙂
Butterfly/ Caterpillar Quilts. I finished both tops! And I’m going to have them quilted by a long armer. I thought about doing them myself, but my machine quilting is super crappy. Then I thought about hand quilting them, but I really want to give them to the twins before their 30th birthday. lol.
Project life. I got 3 weeks of September done, but nothing else.
Scrapping. I got 2 weeks of September done and printed pics for the 3rd week. I was just focused on sewing this month and didn’t get a whole lot done on the scrapping front.
Windchime Quilt. I finished the 12th block and got it assembled! Then I decided that I wanted to do at least 4 more blocks to make it 4×4. Might even end up doing the full 25 blocks just because I love this pattern so much.
Staff Development. I did better than expected! I got more than 24 hours done this month. In fact, I only have 25 more hours to go and I’ve got them all. 🙂
Advent Calendar. I didn’t even pull this out… But I have to put in some work on it this month if I want to have any hope of having it finished this year.
Ice Cream Soda Quilt. I made a bunch of progress here too! I took my Bee Yourself sampler down off of the design wall and put the Ice Cream Soda blocks up instead. Talk about motivating! I got the joining pieces onto rounds 2 and 3, prepped round 5, and am making good progress on finishing round 5. 🙂
Mixed Media. I didn’t get much scraping done, but I did prep another round of backgrounds.
Retreat Plan. I’m still kicking around ideas. I’m vaguely considering just taking up my English Paper Piecing and giving up on the idea that I have to bring my sewing machine… I’m also considering trying to machine quilt the Low Volume Log Cabin at the retreat. We’ll see.
Which brings us to October Goals.
The final 2 hexie blocks. I think I can actually get these done this month! Then I can work on assembly in November.
Butterfly/ Caterpillar Quilts. I had to order more backing fabric, but it finally arrived yesterday! So I need to piece together the 2 backings and then get it to the quilter. 🙂
Project Life. Ok. I need to finish September and keep current with October.
Scrapping. I’d love to finish September 2021, keep current with October 2021, and at least print the pics for March 2019.
Advent Calendar. I’d love to finish the background this month so that I can focus on the pieces that go in to the pockets in November.
Ice Cream Soda Quilt. Hmm… I’d like to keep the momentum going on this one. Maybe finish round 5 and get the joining blocks onto rounds 4 and 5? Then I can prep round 6!
Halloween Costumes. This should really have been the first goal. lol. I’m not sure if we will let the twins trick or treat, I imagine that will depend on when they are able to get their first vaccine (please soon!!!), but I still need to make them some costumes and figure out some Halloween plans.
Camping plan. We are letting the twins join Girl Scouts/ Cub Scouts! It’s taking longer than expected to get the Girl Scout troop up and running, but I think soon. Xander’s already been to his first Cub Scout meeting and he loved it. They are going camping this month and apparently with Cub Scouts that means our whole family has to go camping. lol. Well, the kids are excited even if the adults are a bit unsure. We have a tent, but I need to get us all some real sleeping bags and stuff. Kate has nice camping stuff from Girl Scouts, but the rest of us don’t have a thing.
Fall Break Plan. We’re going to a little lake house for a few days with my grandparents and mom and I’m so excited! I want to plan some stuff for the road trip/ maybe plan an adventure while we’re waiting for check in/ plan stuff for the rest of the week while I’m at my QUILT RETREAT! I’m just a teeny bit excited about it.
Smitten Quilt. I saved the best for last! I fell in love with the Heather Ross Malibu Smitten Quilt Block of the Month that’s been blowing up my instagram feed and decided that I simply had to do it. The kit is sold out, but I’m not one to let that stop me. lol. I ordered a half yard bundle of Malibu fabric and I’m making my own. 🙂 I’ve been working on cutting out some blocks while I want for my papers to get here from Australia. Hopefully soon because I cannot wait to get started. 🙂
I was feeling a little discouraged because I knew I hadn’t hit my scrappy goals, but I think I had forgotten how much I actually did get done this month! So I’m counting this month as a win. 🙂
You guys! It’s September! And August has been great! I’ve actually gotten a lot done and I am super excited to set goals for the month. First let’s check in on last month.
Hexie Blocks. Done! In fact, I’m pretty close to finishing a second one. 🙂
Ice Cream Soda Blocks. Nope. I actually need to cut some more papers on the laser so that’s been put on the back burner for now.
Organize. Partial credit. I only got one bag out of the art room, but I started going through the twin’s clothes and got rid of a bunch of stuff!
Pinwheels. Done!!! And I even started sewing the pinwheels together!
Bee Yourself. Another partial credit. I did get the 4th row done and assembled, but I didn’t get any additional blocks done. That’s ok though. I think I’m going to let myself ruminate on it for a while while I try to finish up the butterfly and caterpillar quilts for the twins.
Project Life. Amazingly, done!
Scrapping. In another surprise victory, also done! And I discovered that I still love scrapbooking. 🙂
Back to School Interviews. Done! I didn’t get the pics printed, but I did get them edited and that’s honestly half the battle. lol.
Windchime Quilt. Another partial credit. I finished the EPP, but I haven’t gotten it appliqued yet.
Monthly Kid Adventure. Only did one state park visit, but we did get to go swimming several times. 🙂
So… Monthly goals for September!
Hexie Blocks. I need to get 2 done this month. And I think I can totally make that happen.
Butterfly/ Caterpillar Quilt. I want to finish sewing the pinwheels together and then get the tops done!
Project Life. I’d like to keep current with September and also get April 2021 done. That’s 7 layouts.
Scrapping. I’d like to keep current with September, and also finish March 2019. Time to start catching up!
Windchime Quilt. I’d love to get that 12th block appliquéd.
Staff Development. ::sob:: I’ve put this off as long as I dare. I think I’m going to try to get 6 hours a week so 24 hours by the end of September? I also need to come up with an actual plan to make sure that I get all of this hours done.
Advent Calendar. Time to get serious if I have any hopes of finishing this by December 1st. lol.
Ice Cream Soda Blocks. I really want to prep the next round.
Mixed Media. I need to make another batch of backgrounds if I’m going to keep up with the scrappy goals.
Retreat Plan. I’m actually going to a quilting retreat in October with my grandmother! I want to come up with a plan for what to work on. 🙂
July was both more productive and less productive than I expected. lol.
Hexie Blocks. I didn’t get 2 done, but I did get 1 done! And I’m figuring that when school pick up starts again I’ll be able to get loads done on my English Paper Piecing. Fingers crossed!
Pinwheels. I didn’t even look at these this month. Whoops.
Project Life. Also nada.
Bee Yourself. I actually got a lot done this month! I got 3 more blocks done, plus I made some real progress on the flags! I actually have the entire bottom (5th) row assembled now and I’m hoping to get the 4th row assembled this week. Just need to finish 2 more flags. 🙂
Stickers. Designing them has been put on hold for a bit, but I have some ideas!
Art Room. I got the corner cleaned! Still loads to go, but it feels great to be making progress.
Adventure Time. We didn’t get any day trips done, but we did discover some public pools that are both not crowded and open in the morning! So lots of swimming going on. 🙂
School prep. I think we’re good? I mean, I’m on the verge of a nervous breakdown daily, but I think I have all of the “stuff” together.
Master Bathroom Closet. Nothing on this front, but we did a total clean out of our master bedroom and closet! We literally pulled everything out so we could paint and it feels amazing!
So August… Unless I have a massive freak out in the next week (totally possible) the kids start school on Tuesday.
Hexie Blocks. I’d like to get one done.
Ice Cream Soda Blocks. I’ve gotten some fun new fabric so I’d love to prep another round of blocks!
Organize. In a bit of a “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” moment, painting the master bedroom has turned into a massive project which will eventually include new floors in the 3 small bedrooms (the only rooms in the house that still have nasty carpet), repainting the 3 small bedrooms, a massive clean out of Kate’s room, switching the art room and the twin’s room with a massive clean out of both, and new big kids furniture for the twins. Why yes, we are insane. Most of the big things will be happening in March or April, but I want to start the purging now so that we have less items to deal with when it comes time to empty all 3 small bedrooms into our living room so that we can paint/ do floors. As for a quantifiable goal, I think maybe 2 big trashbags and/ or donation boxes out of the art room.
Pinwheels. Did I mention that the twins are getting a new room makeover this spring? lol. The pressure is on to finish their quilts! Pinwheels must be finished this month.
Bee Yourself. I want to finish the flags and get the 4th row assembled. Then maybe 2 other blocks?
Project Life. I fell behind (again), but once school starts I want to prioritize getting the previous week’s layout done each Monday. And then maybe 1 other spread each week? So that would look like 6 layouts? We’ll see. lol.
Scrapping. Oh boy. I’m giving myself August to see if I actually want to get back to scrapping and then I’m going to give serious consideration to ditching scrapping all together and just focusing on Project Life and quilting. I’m not *quite* ready yet though. So lets see… Maybe I should focus on some layouts from this summer… Let’s say 10 layouts just to get myself going again. Then if that goes well, I’ll come up with some kind of catch up plan in September. At any rate, I’m thinking that I’m switching to a single album for each year instead of 2. I’m also considering doing away with the calendar layouts… Not sure if I can bring myself to do that or not. lol.
Back to School Interviews. I want to do our annual back to school interviews and pictures. 🙂 Bonus points if I actually get the last few rounds of pictures printed and put in the interview books!
Windchime Quilt. It’s been a while since I’ve worked on this, but I want to finish the 12th block.
Monthly Kid Adventure. Admitidly, I’m cheating a bit here because we actually went to a McKenny Falls State Park yesterday, but I’d love to do 2 adventures this month. 🙂
It’s July!!! And I’m feeling much recharged after my littles have been in day camp for the past 3 1/2 weeks. lol. I’ll be honest, I’m a much better mother when I have a bit of a break from my kids! And today is Kate’s birthday! She’s officially 12!!! I can’t believe I have a 12 year old. And I’m so excited because she’s getting her first vaccine today! I cannot wait for the twins to be able to get vaccinated as well and then I can stop worrying so much. So June goals…
Hexie Blocks. Done! I actually got 2 blocks done. 🙂
Pinwheels. Well, I didn’t finish them, but I did finish a big batch. I think I only need to do 20 more.
Scrapping. Honestly, not much done here.
Project Life. I was more successful here. 🙂 I got 3 weeks of June done and I finished March!
Bee Yourself. Yes! I got the sushi block done and I’m really pleased with it. 🙂 I also redid the avocado seeds and I’m much happier with them now.
Habit Tracker. Not so much. :/ But it was fun to play with for a week. 🙂
Windchime Quilt. Nada.
Clean Art Room. ::sigh:: I had such high hopes for this goal and then I didn’t do a darn thing.
Field Trip Time! I didn’t really plan field trips, but I did schedule approximately 4 million appointments for July. lol. RaptorDad and I discussed taking a little road trip, but I think we’re going to wait until next summer when the kids are all vaccinated. I do think we’re going to do a little day trip or two though.
Advent Calendar. Whoops. lol.
Hexie Blocks. I’d love to get another 2 blocks done this month.
Pinwheels. Dare I say it? I’d really love to finish these this month.
Scrapping. Is there even a point in setting a goal here? I’m sure my inspiration will return at some point. Maybe I’ll set a super simple goal of doing 4 pages: 1 a week.
Project Life. I’m trying to do Project Life in real time again. So maybe my goal will me to keep current with June and July?
Bee Yourself. I’m so happy that I’m making progress on this quilt! I’d love to get another few blocks done, maybe the AEK block? And then keep working on the flags?
Stickers. I’ve gotten obsessed with stickers! And I’d like to try my hand at designing a few.
Art Room. Oh boy. It’s a huge mess in here. I think I want to pick a small section and work on cleaning out/ reorganizing it. Maybe the corner with the closet…
Adventure Time! I’d love to plan 2 fun day trips with the kids in July? We have a ton of appointments, but I think we can do 2. 🙂
School Prep. I need to order all the things! Uniforms, backpacks, shoes, locker decorations…
Master Bathroom Closet. Oh boy. I’d really love to get my house all organized, but I need to take some baby steps. I think I’ll try to work on the master bathroom closet this month. Wish me luck!
We made it y’all! There were points this spring when I wasn’t sure I would survive my time as a learning coach, but I am pleased to report that all 3 of my children made it through. With good grades even! It’s been less than a week and I’m already starting to forget the hards parts in favor of remembering the sweet moments. Stockholm syndrome? Perhaps. But I’ll take it. lol.
That said, I did get into a bit of a funk last month and ended up reading a bunch of junky romance novels instead of doing anything crafty. I love reading, but I have noticed that my overall mood is better when I spend at least some time being creative each day. I’m experimenting with a habit tracker this month and one of the things I’m tracking is if I do anything creative. I think it will be interesting to look at at the end of the month.
We also made the huge decision to let the twins go to a 3 week *in person* camp at their school. The school is offering it to help get the kids catch up on their academics since so many of them were distance learning this year. I’m nervous about letting them go, but the covid levels in our part of Texas are actually super low right now and I’m fairly certain that most, if not all, of the adults involved will be vaccinated. Also, their school did a great job with their covid protocols this past year. There were very few cases at the school and there did not appear to be any community spread within the school. That said, we will be watching the numbers closely!
Since the kids will be spending 3 weeks at camp, and then another week at Mobile Loaves and Fishes camp (more on that later I’m sure) I’m going to set some more ambitious goals for this month. Honestly, I’m giddy at the thought of having so much free time! I think RaptorDad and I might even go on a lunch date! But first, let’s look at my pitiful progress last month.
Hexie Block. I worked on this, but did not finish.
Butterfly Effect Quilt. I got all of the papers cut and organized and even made the first butterfly. But y’all, this pattern is so teeny tiny and the pieces are super fiddly. I put it away for a bit because I was unhappy with how the first butterfly ended up. I’ve since learned a new method for EPP, the flat backstitch, and I’m cautiously optimistic that it will work better.
Pinwheels. I made some progress on this one, but not as much as I would have liked. I’m up to a grand total of 74 pinwheels out of 120. And I’ve got the next batch of 26 to the 1/2 square triangle stage.
Low Volume Log Cabin. No progress, but I’ve been thinking about how I want to piece the back. Need to decide on that.
Bee Yourself Quilt. This was my one win. I designed a new hexie flower petal block and made 4 of them. I love it so much that I’m considering making a whole quilt out of them. lol.
Ice Cream Soda. Well, I did manage to get round 4 finished, but very little else got done.
Windchime Quilt. Same here. Part of the problem is that we’ve had a ridiculously rainy May. Usually I work on my EPP while the kids are playing at various parks, but we’ve been stuck at home lately.
Scrapping. I got a single layout done.
Project Life. Nada.
Summer Homeschool Schedule. Not so much a schedule since we’ve got a single week before camp, but I did order our workbooks and we’re doing a page or 2 a day. Mia does more because she loves workbooks so much. Xander begrudgingly does a page a day, but once he sits down he has fun. Kate’s working on some math, which she doesn’t love, but which I think will help her a lot when it comes time for Algebra next year.
Hexie Block. I would like to finish 2 blocks this month.
Pinwheels. I’d love to finish these this month! And I think it’s possible.
Scrapping. This is going to be one of my big goals for the month. Honestly, I’d love to edit, print, and scrap all of 2021 so far. It’s a big goal, but I think with my new plan of doing fewer layouts it’s possible.
Project Life. I’d also love to get March 2021 and April 2021 done.
Bee Yourself. I’d like to design and prep another block. Maybe the clamshell block? Or the bookshelf block? Sushi block? Not sure yet, but I think getting one more done is doable.
Habit Tracker. I’m interested to track my habits and see how it correlates to my mood. I suspect that spending more time being creative will lead to a boost in mood, but we’ll see?
Windchime Quilt. I’d like to finish block number 12 and get that row added to the quilt.
Clean Art Room. I would like to do a big clean out of the art room. I feel like it’s time to clear out the ghosts of projects past. lol. There are some old projects that I’m just never going to finish and I think it’s time to let them go. It would also be super nice to have the stuff that I actually do use more organized!
Field Trip Time! We didn’t manage to make it to a state park in May. We did discover some cool new play grounds though! Still, I’d like to plan a few day trips for the summer. These will likely be happening in July just because of camp, but I want to get them on the books so to speak.
Advent Calendar. I’d love to spend some time on this this month!
Hopefully this marks the start of my final month as a virtual learning coach! Yay!!! So let’s see how we did in April.
Caterpillar Quilt. Done! Oh my gosh, this has been on my list for months, but I finally finished the center. Now I jut have to do 4 bazillion pinwheels for the border.
Project Life. I didn’t do anything for this.
Scrapbook. This either. ::sigh:: Like I didn’t scrap a single layout.
Monthly Kid Adventure. We went on several adventures this month! We went out to Muleshoe Recreational Area and took bluebonnet pics. We went to the zoo. And we got our state park for the month: Buscher State Park. 🙂
Seasonal Celebration. We played an epic April Fool’s prank on Kate. We dyed Easter eggs. So much fun!
Bluebonnet Pictures. Done! Not the best we’ve ever gotten, which is a bummer because we drove all the way out to Muleshoe, but we had fun. Should have gone a week or two earlier.
60 Degree Diamond Quilt. Done! I can’t believe I actually finished this one. It should come as no surprise that I was finally motivated to finish it so that I could start a new quilt. lol. More on that later.
GoPro Video. I didn’t get anything edited, but we had a ton of fun playing with the camera and taking videos. 🙂
Twins Turn 6! We got them a trampoline! So needless to say, they were thrilled.
Hexie Block. I really want to keep this momentum going.
Butterfly Effect Quilt. I’m starting a new EPP quilt! It’s gorgeous and it’s got a gazillion teeny tiny pieces. I’d love to get the paper pieces all cut, labeled, and organized. I’d also love to get the first ring of butterflies done.
Pinwheels. I would also love to get all of the pinwheels done. I think I have 50 done? I need 120 total.
Low Volume Log Cabin. This is another surprise finish from last month. I’d like to piece the back and get it all basted so I can stick it in a drawer and put off quilting it for a year. lol.
Bee Yourself Quilt. This was nowhere on my list for last month, but I pulled it out and started working on the flag blocks. I’d love to keep making progress on this!
Ice Cream Soda. I am almost done with the last block for round 4! I’d love to get the grey joining pieces on rounds 2-4 and prep round 5.
Windchime Quilt. lol. I guess I’m aiming to make progress on all of the quilts. I have everything prepped for block number 12. I’d love to get that block finished.
Scrapping. Sigh. I’d like to get anything done. Maybe I should set aside a day to work on printing editing photos.
Project Life. If I could finish March 2021 that would be great.
Summer Homeschool Schedule. I’m thinking of a lose daily/ weekly schedule?
Boy. February was a doozy this year. Maybe I’ll write about it, maybe not. lol. Let’s just say that I’ve decided I’m never moving anywhere where it snows regularly! Still, I got a fair amount done.
Hexies. It came down to the wire, but I did finish a block last night! 11 more to go!
Caterpillar Quilt. Well, I didn’t finish the navy fruit blocks, but I did prep the applique for 2 of them and that’s half the battle.
Project Life. I didn’t *quite* finish this goal, but I came awfully close. I finished January and I only have two weeks left: last week and this week.
Scrapbooks. I did exactly what I said I wasn’t going to do. lol. I got exactly 1 current layout done, but I finished November 2018, December 2018, and January 2019! I would have gotten more done, but I ran out of white cardstock! Never fear, I ordered a ton and it should get here this week. Then I’ll just need to sit down and do a marathon mixed media background prep day. lol.
Monthly Kid Adventure. Well, we ended up in an epic apocalyptic “winter weather event” which really put a damper on my plans to take the kids to another state park on our February day off, but I did manage to keep my children alive and fed when we lost power for several days. So, partial credit?
Monthly Seasonal Celebration. We did decorate some cookies for Valentine’s Day, but to be honest I was phoning it in a bit this month. I didn’t even get out our decorations. But never fear! I have big plans for St Patrick’s Day. lol.
Homeschool. Xander and I finished the book! He can read now! For real!
Staff Development. Got my 6 hours done! Which brings my grand total up to 66 hours. Only 84 to go.
Kid Crafts. This did not happen this month, but that’s ok. We did lots of other fun craft projects.
Ice Cream Soda Quilt. I finished round 3! And I even prepped round 4! This quilt has been so much fun. 🙂
Which brings us to the March goals…
Hexies. I’m going to try to get another block done.
Caterpillar Quilt. Ok. This needs to be put at the top of the list. I want to finish the navy fruit and get the center assembled.
Project Life. I’d really love to finish February and keep current with March. In a miracle world, I would finish November and December of 2020 too and then be all caught up with Project Life!
Scrapbooks. Hmm… I think January and February of 2021. And maybe February of 2019? That seems like a good way to approach the gap- like, all of my Valentine’s Day stuff will be out, makes sense to knock out both years. lol. (Stretch goal of February 2020?)
Monthly Kid Adventure. Should we shoot for 2 state parks this month to catch up? Hmm… We do have spring break coming up this month…
Monthly Seasonal Celebration. St. Patrick’s Day!
Staff Development. Maybe I’ll aim for 12 hours this month?
Windchime Quilt. I have block number 11 all prepped! I’d like to finish it this month.
Low Volume Log Cabin. I pulled this one out to work on and I’m up to 10 blocks! I think I’m aiming for 24? Either way, I’d like to get 6 more blocks done this month.
Ice Cream Soda. I’d like to get the grey joining pieces attached for rounds 1 and 2, and finish round 4.
