October Daily Part 3

And here’s the rest of the project!  In case you missed it, here’s part 1 and part 2.

IMG_5148I love this spider web/ bat paper!

IMG_5150Blurry phone pic, but I love that I have a picture of Kate working on her October Daily!  She only got a page or 2 done, mostly because I fell down on printing pics for her.  Next year, I think I’ll just have her do a December Daily for the days that she’s on school break.  (So 2 weeks?)

IMG_5151So Kate wanted to be a “purple sparkly witch” this year.  Done!  🙂

IMG_5152Extra insert.

IMG_5153So I had to have minor surgery on the 24th, and my surgeon gave me some pics of the inside of my uterus.  I wasn’t really sure what to do with them, so my friend suggested putting them in a pocket.  Great idea!  Or creepy, you know.  Your milage may vary.  😉

IMG_5154I so rarely get a pic of Ninja where you can actually see her and she’s not blending into the background.  Love this one of her and Raptor!  Also love these thickers.  I broke down and used them even though they don’t fit the rest of the book’s color scheme.

IMG_5155Crazy ice cream girl.

IMG_5156Once again, crappy phone pics.  Honestly, I don’t mind crappy phone pics in a mini book.  Especially if it’s a story I want to tell.

IMG_5157You might be noticing a recurring swing theme.  Raptor loves to swing.  She seriously swings almost every day.

IMG_5158I liked this paper, especially the back side, but there were just too many colors that weren’t working in the context of the book.  I colored the yellow stripes with orange stickles and that helped.  It’s still a bit busy for me, but I think it’s ok.

IMG_5159Ninja sleeping on my crafting stuff.  She’s such a helpful dog.  lol.  Also, another insert.

IMG_5160Raptor gets more ice cream.  I’m noticing a theme.  lol.

IMG_5161This is the only page that I didn’t stick a number on, but this paper had the date on it, so I think it works.

IMG_5162I had lots of writing so I just stuck down a sticker and wrote around it.  I’m not sure how I feel about it.  I like the way it looks, but it’s a bit hard to read.  Thoughts?

IMG_5163And that’s the end!  I’m so glad I pushed through and finished this project.  🙂  Now time to knock out my December Daily!  Also, RaptorDad helped me make a time lapse video of me scrapping which I think turned out super neat.  I’m posting it on Monday.  🙂

October Daily Part 2

In case you missed the first installment, here you go. 🙂

IMG_5132

We went down to Houston for the weekend to see my BFF and we took Raptor to the zoo.  She loved it!

IMG_5133She loved it and I took a *ton* of pics.  The pics on the right are actually 2 separate pages.

IMG_5134Another added page.  🙂

IMG_5135And after so many pics, I had none for the 12th.  It bugs me to leave a page blank, so I added this calendar card.  Incidentally, this is why I do better at projects like this when I keep up with them.  It reminds me to take pictures every day!

IMG_5136My mom took me to see Book of Mormon and it was amazing!  I cut out the cover of the program and included it.  I loved the B side of this paper, but this side was a bunch of cut apart sheets that you would use in a party invitation.  I liked that the program was large enough to cover most of that up so that what you were left with was more graphic.  At least, that’s the way I’m interpreting it.  🙂

IMG_5137

Another little half page, this time with some ric rack.

IMG_5138

I probably won’t make a 12×12 scrapbook page about the Book of Mormon, so it was nice to have some extra space for journaling.  On the right, you see that I had another page with no picture!  I’ve got to get better about this.

IMG_5139

This is a super simple page.  You can kind of tell that I was starting to get burned out with the project.  lol.  It does have my fav washi tape EVER!  Which, by the way, I borrow from my scrapping buddy.  I keep plotting ways to steal it, but she’s on to me.

IMG_5140

I love this picture of Raptor at story time.  She’s just so happy!  It’s super blurry, but I love it anyway.  This is why I love mini books.

IMG_5141

Fun day at the park.  I colored on more wood veneers with stickles.  I do believe I’m going to have to buy a whole rainbow of these.

IMG_5142

Love this ticket washi tape!  Who am I kidding, I love all washi tape!

IMG_5144

I took a ton of pictures on the 19th at my nephew’s birthday party.  What can I say, the lighting was beautiful!

IMG_5145

And, hello!  Pouting ninja turtle?  Must include the pics!

IMG_5146

And of course the piñata.  <– How cool is that.  Auto correct knows how to do the ñ!

IMG_5147

And that wraps up this installment.  I’ll be back on Friday with the last 3rd of the book.  I’d love to hear what y’all think!

October Daily Part 1

I finally finished!  This book took forever this year, but I’m glad that I pushed through and finished.  I’m breaking it up into 3 posts, with 10 days each.

IMG_5164For this book, each day has 1 6×6 page, front and back.  Some days I had more pictures so I added additional inserts.  These were all smaller than 6×6 so that it was easier to tell when one day ended and another began.  Most of the supplies are Apothecary from 2012 and 2013.  There’s also a bit of October Afternoon 2012.  If you have any specific questions about supplies or anything else, leave a comment and I’ll answer.  🙂

IMG_5113I put stickles in the middle of the flowers instead of messing with brads.  Since I just use the back of the double sided paper for the next page, I don’t like to use brads.

IMG_5114Here you can see, I had a longer journaling story so I added an insert.

IMG_5115Loved writing directly on the photo.  I think I want to do this more.  I also loved “coloring” the wood veneers with the stickles.

IMG_5116We had so much fun at the Children’s Museum that I added 2 inserts.  🙂

IMG_5118Love the star border punch.

IMG_5119I wish I had more of this spider web transparency!  I had one 6×6 piece left over from last year’s October Daily.

IMG_5120Note to self:  Next time buy more than 1 sheet.

IMG_5122You do have to be mindful of covering the backs of the photos.

IMG_5123Bad phone pic, but I just love that I have a pic of Raptor scrapping with me.  🙂

IMG_5124Another insert.  I found a haunted gingerbread kit at Joannes.

IMG_5125Playing with shaving cream in the water table.  Why yes, we do live in Texas.  🙂

IMG_5126I didn’t have a pic for this day, so I took a screen shot of a facebook thread.  I like to occasionally include things like this because I think it’ll be neat for Raptor to see what technology was like back in the day.

IMG_5128Another day I didn’t have a pic for, so I snapped a pic of this DVD case after the fact.  We had been avoiding Princess movies, so it was a bit of a big deal when we finally caved.

IMG_5129Here’s a pic of Raptor getting her first eye exam!  We were waiting for her eyes to dilate so I snapped a quick phone pic.  I also colored some more wood veneers with stickles.

IMG_5131I’ll post days 11-20 on Wednesday!  🙂

Kiwi Crate

We got our second Kiwi Crate yesterday, and it’s just as awesome as the first!  I’m taking pictures of our projects and I plan to write up a review at some point. 🙂

I’m tweeting!

Feel free to follow along.  🙂  It will probably be largely craft related with some cute pics of Raptor thrown in for good measure.  My handle (is that the right word for it?) is RaptorMama09.  And yes, I am hugely annoyed that RaptorMama was already taken.

Paint Splatters Background

I’m doing another of those crazy Creation a Day challenges on TwoPeas!  <3 them.  This one is only 2 weeks long, so maybe I’ll be able to keep up.  😉  Each day, we have an optional challenge, and today it was to be messy.  Well alright then!  Good think I’ve cleared off my desk.  🙂  I decided to scrap some pics of our family checking out the comet last March.  (Why yes, I am almost a year behind.  Ugh.)

comet page

I splattered some “stars” on a sheet of black cardstock with this paint pen.

comet page-2I think it turned out pretty cool!

comet page-3I wanted to use this card, but I didn’t like the way the patterned paper was showing through.

comet page-4So I cut out a bit of paper from behind the photo.

comet page-5And taped it to the back.

comet page-6Much better, but then I decided to back it with blue so that it made more sense as part of the title.

comet page-7Patterned paper and stickers are from an older collection, October Afternoon’s Rocket Age.  Blank red labels are from a Crate Paper ephemera pack.  Flair is from twopeas.  And the wood veneer card and stars are from Studio Calico.

Project Life Week 24

Yay for new cards!  I actually sat down and finished a page.  🙂  If I can finish 2 more, I might let myself buy the Halloween theme set.

week 24 A blog

I used the girl theme set for this layout and it was really fun.

Week 24 B blogI changed up a few of the cards, but nothing major.  The tags and calendar card are from different sets.  I’m going to see how far I can get on Week 25 before nap time is over.  🙂

Project Life Plan

So, I’m bored with my PL cards.  I’m going to let myself  buy one set of the theme cards, and then if I can get 3 weeks done I’ll buy the Halloween set.  Here’s hoping I can get at least 1 week done today!  If I do, I’ll post it.

Also, I’m on a roll with the organization!  Kate has a space in the art room now and she’s thrilled.

More Felt Letters

I made another set of felt letters this fall and never blogged them.  Whoops.  I’ll be honest, I think this might be my last set.  They take forever to make.  I think if I do make some more, I’ll be raising my prices.

lettersThis set was for a new mom that wanted an alternative to the onesie stickers.  She got the idea from my good friend Libby who did the same thing with a set I made for her first son.

On Organizing and my Travel Journals

I went over to my friend’s house yesterday and was once again totally jealous of how organized and clutter free her house is.  After some word vomit on my part about how I couldn’t possible organize my pantry because it’s full of crap that has no other place to go (like Raptor’s art supplies) she suggested I start in the art room.  And I am! January is the month I will tackle the art room. In February, I’ll pick a different room. (Hopefully. There’s a strong possibility that I’ll throw in the towel tomorrow on the whole thing. lol.)

Some background.  We have an extra bedroom that we call the art room.  Half of it is RaptorDad’s art supplies and half of it is my scrapbooking/ general crafting supplies.  About 6 years ago, we went to Ikea and put butcher block countertops along 3 of the walls.  The fourth wall has the closet and the door.  We also bought some organization stuff and it worked really well for the way I scrapped 6 years ago.  Now, my 6 year old supplies that I never use are still pretty well organized.  My 3 year old supplies are pilled on top of every surface.  And my current supplies are in a rolling cart in our bedroom since that’s where I actually scrapbook.  ::sigh::  I’ve been scrapbooking since 1999 and I’ve basically never thrown away a thing. In addition, this room is pretty much our dumping ground for everything.

The plan?  Purge purge purge!  I’m setting aside of box of stuff for Raptor to play with, and then the rest is going in the trash.  I filled up a whole trash bag yesterday and it was so freeing!  Among my realizations were that, while I love to hoard memorabilia, I never ever use it on my pages.  Even if by some chance I do go back and scrap that weekend in Dallas 6 years ago, I’m not going to put the hotel brochure on the page!  This times a thousand. Programs, concert tickets, brochures, all gone! I can’t quite bring myself to start throwing away the post cards yet, but I’m close.

My ultimate goals for the room are:
1. All of my supplies purged/ organized.
2. Move all of the crafting crap out of our bedroom.
3. Put ongoing projects (December Daily, knitting, etc.) in some kind of cases or boxes so I can pull them out and work on them in the bedroom.
4. Create a space for Raptor to craft with me in the art room.
5. Get Raptor’s art supplies out of my pantry/ kitchen cabinets.
6. Wish list: Improve the lighting so I can photograph layouts on my table.

In the past 2 days, I’ve worked on my half of the closet and have started on my drawer system of embellishments. In the bottom of one drawer, I came across my in-progress travel journals. What are travel journals? Let me tell you. 🙂 I’ve done these 3 different times with varying degrees of success. The first was a 2 week trip while I was studying abroad. I basically bought a small sketch book and packed it with a glue stick and a pen. The idea was that every night, I would sit down and glue in any ephemera I had picked up and journal about the day.  Of course, I’m a bit long winded (imagine that!) so I ended up finishing 2 or 3 days of the 2 weeks and then just collecting a bunch of stuff to glue in later.  It was a lot of fun reading back over those 2 days, but I had to be honest with myself that I was never going to finish this project.  I had no idea what any of the papers were anymore (it was 13 years ago) so I kept the finished bit and threw all of the other crap away!

The second time I tried this was a 3 week trip to South America with one of my best friends (7 1/2 years ago).  I did better this time, and I had a ton of fun working on the project in the evenings in our hostels or sitting at cafes etc.  Still, I was soooooo far behind.  I think I had finished a week by the time we came home.  I was good though about keeping everything sorted by day and writing notes of what I wanted to write about.  After we got back, RaptorDad and I would go hang out at coffee shops on the regular.  He would bring his sketchbook and I would bring this project.  I *almost* finished it, but then Raptor came into our lives and I’ve been scrapping her ever since.  Imagine my delight when I pulled out the final volume (I think I ended up using 4 notebooks?) and realized that I only had 1 day left to finish, our travel day.  I sat my butt down and made myself finish it!  And it feels great!  Talk about checking off a long time unfinished project!

The third time was when RaptorDad and I went to Europe 5 1/2 years ago.  I’ll be honest, I don’t think much of this book is done at all.  I’ll take a look at it tomorrow, but I imagine it’ll go the way of the Italy one- in the trash aside from the 1 or 2 days that happen to be done.  And you know what?  I don’t feel bad about it!

Would I do this again if we went on another trip?  Absolutely!  I love the one that I finished and it was fun to take a look at the few days from the others.  I took a few pics of the South America one so you could get a better idea of what I’m talking about.

TravelJournal

One of my favorite things to include is post cards!  At the time, I was a terrible photographer, but I love pictures.  This also helped me to remember what all of the pictures were when I came home.

TravelJournal-2More postcards.  The one on the right is folded over because I wanted to be able to see both sides.

TravelJournal-4I also love to include receipts!  I think it’s fun to look back and see how much stuff cost, especially in different currencies.  Ignore the craziness, I was too lazy to pull it into photoshop to blur my name so I used the spot tool in lightroom.  😉  I also included my boarding pass.

TravelJournal-3Sometimes I put in really random stuff.  This was inside a kinder egg.  I fell in love with kinder eggs when I was studying abroad, but you can’t really buy them in the US.  I was so excited to find them in South America!  If you don’t know, they’re thin hollow chocolate eggs with a toy inside.  🙂
